Snapshots

I am not a happy camper. I didn't get to eat very much this weekend, and I'm severely lacking in the sleep department, as well. I have been up since four. Not cool. Anyway, I'm sitting here drinking coffee and trying to refrain from killing anyone, so I decided it would be a good time to look over some pretty pictures of my week. 

I found this bird's nest earlier this week. It was completely empty, which is good, because the next day I saw that it had been blown out of the tree.

Making mountain pies - like grilled cheeses, only with a bigger variety of toppings and cooked over a fire instead of on the stove. 

I chopped up a pair of high-water jeans, gave them a scalloped edge, and some lace! I'll be posting a DIY on Monday. 

We went out for Chinese food. I absolutely love fortunes! I have to confess, I'm one of those people that grabs as many fortune cookies as I can so I can stuff them in my bag for later. It pays off, too! 

Also, you probably noticed that I'm in the middle of blog renovations! I'm so excited! Thanks to Lauren from The Perfect Pear for designing it for me!

Button Swap

This week I happened to find the blog Open Ended, which I think is a pretty awesome blog. One of the first posts I saw was an ad for May sponsorship (check it out here) - only instead of charging people for it, Drew is trading blog buttons with people.

Film Photographs

A few years back, my family members gave me some of their old film cameras. My dad gave me his old Minolta camera, which I named Grindelwald.

Now, I love taking pictures, but I especially love using my film camera. I love the surprise of whether or not your photos come out. I love holding my camera, excitedly waiting for just the right Kodak moment. I love the anticipation while the film is being developed (kudos to anyone that can develop their own film). And, for me, because I'm broke and take way too many photos, I love that by the time I get my film developed, I have no idea what photos are on there, so I get to go through a list of 24 forgotten memories.

At the moment, I have 9 rolls of film from the past two years - I had eleven, but I got two of them developed yesterday. Since I finally have a job, I should finally have some money to develop all those rolls of film! Here are some of the ones I finally got back yesterday.

This is of me, so obviously I didn't take it - it was taken by a BFF, Andrea. Also, I have pink hair. Woohoo!

Artist Spotlight: Conner Youngblood

My most recent "find"! Lately Grooveshark has started advertising, which means watching commercials before listening to songs. I can totally understand this, and I've benefited from it on several occasions. This is one of them.

This time, they started a music video of Conner Youngblood. It started out slow, and I wasn't intending on listening to it, but then he started singing. I don't think his voice amazed me, but I was definitely struck by the brilliant combination of his smooth, chill vocals and the sometimes almost techno-ish music in his song Australia. It's the kind of sound that's fun and mellow at the same time. His song The Thunderhead starts off as a beautiful, delicate musical number. I highly recommend you check it out! Plus, he covers one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs. Listen below.

Seriously, I'm just amazed by this guy! His style is so beautiful and chill, mixing so many styles at once. Mmm. It makes me smile so much!

DIY: Green Tea Sugar Scrub

I found this pin on Pinterest a long time ago, After seeing it for a while, I decided to Google some different recipes and make my own. I have no idea what recipe I used the first time (and if you read my other blog you know I never follow recipes anyway), but this is the general idea of how to make your own green tea sugar scrub. The sugar helps smooth your skin, the green tea helps even the tone, and the olive oil works as a moisturizer. I think it's great, because I have really dry skin. I don't know how it'd work if you have oily skin.

Ingredients: 

• Small mason jar
• Green tea
• Water
• Sugar (brown or white)
• Olive oil

First, brew a concentrated amount of green tea. I made 1/4 cup. After it's brewed for a few minutes, place it in the freezer to cool off some. If you want, you can break apart the tea bag so there will be loose leaves in your sugar scrub. I like to add a little bit, because I think it looks prettier that way. A lame reason, but there it is. 

While your tea is chilling (raise your hand if you're picturing green tea wearing sun glasses and relaxing by the pool. Just me? oh..), put some sugar in your mason jar. I measured out about 1/2 cup of sugar, but ended up adding more at the end because the sugar scrub was too liquidy for my taste. 

When the tea is chilled, add it to your sugar scrub. Next, pour in some olive oil. I probably used a tablespoon. Really, this sugar scrub mostly depends on how much of each ingredient you want. Given the ingredients, the scrub is not going to be very thick, but you can adjust it how you want. 

If you are using this on your face, don't wash the olive oil off after. Just rinse off the scrub and gently pat your face dry. The olive oil will soak in, so if you use a harsh soap after, you won't get any of the moisture.
