30 January 2012

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy...

I am so drained.

First, as of tomorrow, I will have accomplished two of my new years resolutions- opening up an online shop and selling my photographs. I've been spending this month printing, framing, painting, clipping, crocheting, organizing, photographing, and making labels, price tags, and business cards. My shop opened one week ago (it feels like ages!) and I’m setting up my photos tomorrow in a local coffee shop. It’s going to be such a relief to be done! I can’t wait to rest for a couple days (hopefully reading Catching Fire) before starting a new project.

Second, I received terrible news today. I mentioned before that my laptop was very ill. It turns out her hard drive has kicked the bucket - bought the farm, if you will. I was given the very sad news today that I might lose everything. I was definitely bummed about this and, when I realized that "everything" included my music, I cried.
I really like my music.
Anyway, the guy is going to fix my computer and try to save some stuff. Hopefully he can save everything. Especially the music. (Also, talking about saving the music makes me think of one of those corny 80s movies, like Footloose or something).

And speaking of 80s movies, can anyone guess what came for me in the mail today? Anyone? Anyone?

Love,
Scout

P.S. If you’re in the Chambersburg area, stop by C&C coffee in February to see my photos!
P.P.S. Shame on you if you didn't know the answer.

Snapshots

Not having my laptop has really thrown me off. I'm also slightly bummed because I read the first Hunger Games book and haven't been able to get my hands on the next two. So, here are some snapshots of what I've been doing this week, besides obsessing over the Hunger Games series.

The reflection of the ceiling on one of my framed photos.

Guess which nefarious Harry Potter character this made me feel like.

Friday Love

I love Nancy Drew mystery games. I think they are so much fun. I'm also really bad at them, so I generally end up cheating at some point...And, wouldn't you know it, I can't seem to find my Nancy Drew mystery games...Go figure.

Check out these awesome illustrations, found here. The first two have puns that go with them. Can you figure them out? Oh. That's another thing I love - a good pun :)

Some pretty black and white prints.

A marvelous comic from Doghouse Diaries.

Scout

P.S. The puns were "Mountain Biking" and "Paperbag Writer". Or maybe those aren't puns, but I don't know what else they would be, so deal.

Myrtle

Hey, guys. Just a quick heads up - my laptop, Myrtle, seems to be very seriously ill. I have a couple posts lined up and I'm also able to use my ancient home computer, but there's a tiny chance things will get slow. I really hope not - especially because then I'd be out of a laptop.
Also, I'm reading The Hunger Games. I'm so excited, guys. If you remember, one of my New Year's resolutions was to read 2 books a month. Well, Hunger Games is my fourth. Boo-yah! If you were wondering, the other three were The Outsiders, That Was Then, This is Now, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. All short fiction novels. It's still an accomplishment.
Well, I guess that's all. I think I mostly just wanted to post something because it felt like it'd been a while.

Artist Spotlight: Ray Lamontagne

I love Ray Lamontagne. Maybe it's because his name is so much fun to say. Maybe it's because no one ever says they like Ray Lamontagne, so when I say I love Ray Lamontagne, I feel like I'm one of the elite few that knows who he is. Or maybe it's just that his voice is so soothing and wonderful, and has a marvelous raspy-ness to it. It's just wonderful.

All that being said, sometimes I feel kind of lame for loving Ray Lamontagne as much as I do. Sometimes I feel like only old fogies are supposed to love Ray Lamontagne, or adults with no life.
Whatever. I still love him. Here are a few of my favorites.

Check out his website.

A Day In The Life

Snow day! Did y'all ever watch that movie? I remember when it used to be on all the time...I thought it was pretty lame.
I still watched it practically every time it was on, though.

Anyway.

The weather's been rough around here lately.
(ha...get it?)

Ice Storm

There was an ice storm today. It's so beautiful to see the thin layer of ice that covers every individual branch.

I'm pretty sure I love winter more than most people, but...the more I look at these pictures, the more I wish for warm summer evenings and walking barefoot in the grass.

What are some of your favorite summer activities?

DIY: Wine Glasses to Drinking Glasses.

This is yet another project I've found on Pinterest. Let me tell you, it's the coolest one I've seen yet.

Materials: Pretty wine bottles, nail polish remover, yarn, scissors, and a sink (not shown).

First, take pieces of yarn and wrap them around your wine bottles about seven times each. Tie them in a tight not and then slip off the wine bottles.

Place the yarn in a small dish of nail polish remover and let it soak for a few minutes. While the yarn is soaking, fill your sink with enough cold water to cover your wine bottle when you lay it in there later.

Put the yarn back around your wine bottle, rinse any nail polish remover off of your hands, then grab a match and light the yarn on fire. Hold the bottle horizontally and turn it slowly so the fire goes evenly around the yarn.

After a while the fire will burn out. Immediately place your bottle in the cold water and, if all goes according to plan, the bottle will separate.

Finally, sand the top edges of your glass (a very fine, wet sander works best), wash your glass, and enjoy the beverage of your choice!

Remember, you are literally playing with fire. The nail polish you are using will catch fire, so if you spill nail polish all over your counter or your clothes, you run the risk of setting those on fire, too. Be careful!

Etsy Opening!

WOOHOO!

My Etsy shop is finally open, guys! It's called Hooks and Reels - as in crochet hooks and film reels. Thanks to my friend Andrea for the sweet name! Please head over there and check it out. I'm so excited that it's finally happening! You already know I've been thinking about it for a while. I meant to open it this past summer...Anyway, it's finally here! I also added a sidebar button to the right.
Here are a few shots of what I've put online so far.
